They are cheap HSS drill bits and one bit should last at least 2 receivers if you are drilling correctly. I was burning through cobalt and titanium drill bits every like two holes till I read this. Once I turned down the speed and tried the cheap HSS bits cut they heated steel of a Nodak receiver like it was nothing. They egg holes very quickly and work great, however they produce a lot of these wonderful little steel splinters which get everywhere and dig deep into your skin and are a pain to remove. I am wondering if for the FSB, GB and RSB if you would be better to usestart with 2.9mm for FSB and GB, to ensure you dont go to big for good press fit of pins. And same method for RSB with 3.9mm bit. I think I will try that, its easier to take metal off than put it back, and I already have the bits. The hardware stores looked at me like I was crazy when I was asking around about metric drill bits, you wouldnt beleive how hard finding metric drill bits can be. Buying a kit that wont have them all anyway. The 4.5mm and 6.5mm are strange sizes that a kit might not have. I bought cobalt bits and they were around 1.50 a piece, except for the larger bits. They also have a higher degree cutting edge to help cut through hard metal and should stay sharp longer. I was only getting a few bits. Ak Receiver Flat With Rails Ed Building Plus It WasI was able to go to a store like this and get everything I actually needed, plus it was way cheaper than some expensive cobalt bit set with a bunch of bits you dont need, and maybe some you need but are not it the kit anyway. As for the 3mm holes in the FSB, GB, I just go in straight away with the 3mm bit. Come join the discussion about optics, builds, gunsmithing, styles, reviews, accessories, classifieds, and more.
